NBSC’s Researchers fortifies Coconut Industry Improvement at DOST-PCAARRD Caravan and Writeshop
To fortify the achievement of college’s ultimate goal for research excellence, five esteemed researchers of Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) actively participated in the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resource Research and Development’s (DOST-PCAARRD) Coconut Hybridization Program (CHP) Regional Information Caravan and Proposal Writeshop last February 15-16, 2024 at VIP Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.
The aforementioned program is funded by the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) under Republic Act No. 11524, which aims to significantly improve the coconut industry by boosting farm productivity, enhancing farmer income, and promoting sustainability. DOST-PCAARRD plays a crucial role in implementing CFIDP programs, with the CHP receiving a dedicated 5% annual budget allocation.
NBSC’s will to support the research innovation is evident through the leadership and participation of Research Director, Mary Koren Witting-Acuesa, PhD, Ms. Ma. Cassandra R. Tubongbanua, Ms. Phoebe Ruth B. Alithea Sudaria, Ms. Ma. Jeneza C. Guitarte, and Mr. Daniel C. Cabanas. They actively participated in crafting a proposal focused on policy recommendations for private sector involvement in hybrid coconut planting material production in collaboration with the Philippine Coconut Authority.
NBSC’s participation in this crucial initiative underscores its commitment to research and innovation that empowers Filipino farmers and contributes to the sustainable development of the Philippine coconut industry.
